Dr. Sanaul Hoque Sarker is a cardiovascular and thoracic surgeon with a special interest in robotic, minimally invasive, cardiac and aortic surgery.
After completing his MS in Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery, he undertook further fellowship training at Madras Medical Mission Hospital in Chennai. He is a Fellow of the International College of Robotic Surgeons and the American College of Surgeons.

03Minimally invasive surgery
A smaller path to the heart.
In suitable patients, specialised instruments and a magnified three-dimensional view allow surgery through small openings between the ribs. The breastbone may not need to be divided. Suitability depends on the condition, anatomy and overall health.

Questions patients often ask
01Who may be suitable for minimally invasive heart surgery?
Suitability depends on the heart condition, previous operations, chest anatomy and general health. A consultation and review of the relevant tests are needed before a recommendation can be made.
02Does a smaller incision mean a smaller operation?
No. The operation inside the chest may be the same. The difference is the route used to reach the heart. The aim is to reduce disruption to the chest wall without compromising the operation.
03What should I bring to a surgical consultation?
Bring recent prescriptions, ECG, echocardiogram, angiogram or CT reports, discharge papers and a list of current medicines. If images are available on a disc or online portal, bring access to those as well.
